Exp 2 Part 2
Exp 2 Part 2 DEVELOPMENT OF PROJECT
1. – The Earth
> The LAYERS of the Earth
A child brings to the classroom an Earth image and its layers. Some children comment that this image is in other books that they have brought. From this point I propose the following activity to them:
- We create a model of the Earth in playthough . First the internal layer then the mantle and lastly the crust.
We represented it in a drawing in paper and wrote the names of the Earth’s layers. First we figured out as a group how to write the words, we then write them on the board and finally each pupil writes them onto their drawing.
> THE SURPRISE! I ARRIVE AT CLASS WITH AN EGG…
Teacher – Look what I have brought. Do you know what it is?
Some children respond- An Egg
Teacher – This egg is like the earth. Would you like me to split it in half to see what happens?
All – Yes!!! (while they move away, as if they were scared of the egg splashing them)
Maria – Is all the liquid going to come out?
Paloma – or chicks may come out
(I split the egg with a knife)
Some children respond- wow… uy…
Teacher – What has happened?
Alex – it is white inside
Teacher – Why is there no liquid coming out?
Maria – How come you have not smashed it?
Paloma – because you have not struck it
Diego- because they left the egg too long before picking it
Paloma- because some eggs don’t have a yolk.
Maria – if you strike it strong in a plate I’m sure it will become liquid
Teacher – Look I stroke it in a plate and… there is no liquid coming out…
Teacher – what has happened to this egg to be thus? … what must one do, one’s daddy or one’s mommy, so that the egg becomes this hard? … where does one put it?
Alexander – in the stove
Paloma- in the refrigerator
Teacher- lets ask our parents tonight how does and egg become hard. In order to remember to ask the question, What must we do?
Several – write a noteWe compared the egg with the Earth made of play-dough
We begin to mention its three layers.
We paid attention to the crust that is very thin?
We then wrote what we had learned
In addition
We resolve our doubts
We remembered things worked in other projects (liquids, left, gaseous) – to transfer concepts -
